Mechanicus Magus Consulting Concept & prototype practice
About

For the moment before a difficult idea becomes expensive.

Mechanicus Magus Consulting exists for the stage where the problem is real, the parts are scattered, the constraints conflict, and someone needs to see the whole system clearly enough to decide what comes next.

The practice

The work uses the Synaptic Method: a cross-domain approach to seeing functions, constraints, interfaces, historical solutions, overlooked assumptions, and viable new branches. The purpose is not to claim a magic answer. It is to produce a clear, honest starting architecture that qualified specialists and clients can evaluate and act on.

Mechanicus Magus Consulting is a one-person practice. That is a feature when the job is thinking clearly about an early-stage problem, and a limit worth stating plainly when the job is anything else.

V Hallock

Independent consulting and business development, mechanical-system concept design and prototyping, patent-oriented research and invention documentation, and local AI installation and knowledge-base work. Self-taught throughout — the education has been a long sequence of builds, failures, notebooks, and papers read late.

The through-line across all of it is systems thinking: what is the whole arrangement trying to do, and which single change makes the rest of it easier? That question is the actual service on offer.

Author of The Synaptic Method, which sets out the six-lens framework the consulting work runs on.

The shop

A two-car garage converted to a prototype shop. 3D printing, hand fabrication, tubing and fluid work, bench testing, and a workstation running local language models for research and documentation. Modest by industrial standards and entirely adequate for answering the question of whether a concept deserves to go further.

Work happens in iterative passes with deliberate breaks — concepts get revisited rather than forced. Notes are time-stamped and kept, so a thread picked up months later starts from a real record instead of memory.

Limitations

Limitations. V Hallock is not a licensed professional engineer, and Mechanicus Magus Consulting is not an engineering firm. The practice does not offer professional engineering services, stamped or sealed drawings, code or regulatory compliance work, certification, safety validation, or construction-ready or production-release designs. It does not provide legal advice or patent legal opinion.

Work delivered here is conceptual and exploratory: framing, analysis, documentation, concept architecture, and physical prototypes intended to inform a decision. Anything moving toward built, sold, or safety-critical use should be reviewed and approved by a licensed professional engineer or other qualified specialist.

Stated positively: what this practice is good at is the early, ambiguous part — the framing, the analogies, the prior-art picture, the concept set, and the first physical articles. Handing that package to a licensed engineer or a qualified manufacturer is the intended next step, not a fallback.

Contact

Email is the reliable channel, and the inquiry form is the fastest way to get a useful first answer. A short description of the problem and what has already been tried is enough to start; if this practice is not the right fit, you will get a straight answer and, where possible, a better direction.

Start with the problem, not the pitch.

Rough notes, a photo, a sketch, a failure you cannot explain — that is a good enough beginning.
